Developer Volition released a detailed list of changes introduced on May 9 with the game's first story DLC, The Heist and the Hazardous. Known as the "Sunshine Springs Update", the update will bring many improvements and additions, including a new district, a major overhaul of the combat system, a photo mode, quality of life improvements, and more.
Sunshine Springs, the first map expansion, is a sprawling resort, an oasis in the arid landscape of the Rojas Desert along Route 22 in southwestern Santo Ileso. This new district offers players various activities and shops to explore and conquer.
In response to player feedback, Volition is making significant changes to combat to make enemies less of a nuisance. Changes include reducing fighters' health, improving aim and engagement, and reducing enemy melee dodge rate. The update will also fix issues with enemy reinforcements and generally make combat smoother.

SUNSHINE SPRINGS - UPDATE
Already May 9
In addition to the release of The Heist and The Hazardous and the opening of our brand new Sunshine Springs neighborhood, the team has been hard at work introducing numerous quality of life improvements, new features and bug fixes. This also includes an overhaul of the combat system that makes it feel smoother and more awesome than ever, as well as new features like selfie mode and the emote wheel that lets you choose up to 8 emotes for quick use. Some missions have also been improved and we've added the option to disable or enable health bars at will.
We've also fixed a number of bugs, including issues with achievements/trophies, stability, and challenges. So make yourself comfortable, there's a lot to digest!

QUALITY OF LIFE AND NEW FEATURES:
NEW DISTRICT – SOLAR SOURCES
In our first map expansion, we officially added the brand new Sunshine Springs district. A sprawling resort, an oasis in the arid landscape of the Rojas desert along Route 22 southwest of Santo Ileso. This district offers new attractions and shops to discover, and it's up to you to conquer it.
GENERAL COMBAT CHANGES:
Significant changes took place in the fight. We've heard a lot of feedback about the amount of damage required to knock down enemies, and we agree. The health of the warriors has been drastically reduced. This change, combined with some aim and attack improvements, increases combat speed and reduces ammo hunger. We also made some changes to enemy evasion maneuvers as they felt unfair at times. The last big change is the amount of time players had to pause while fetching reinforcements. Because it was too short, we changed it to be longer on all difficulty levels. This update includes numerous additional changes and bug fixes (see below). Overall, the combat feels a lot more satisfying and we can't wait for everyone to get their hands on it.
- Hit point values of all enemies have been drastically reduced.
- Melee dodge rate reduced to almost 0.
- Reduced the rate at which enemies dodge player kicks to 0.
- Increased the time it takes for enemies to call for reinforcements.
- Enemies that spawn in combat situations now arrive in slightly different locations to avoid collisions more often.
- Enemies no longer wait to attack one player at a time.
- Chance to hit an enemy is now temporarily reduced when crouching.
- Changed the crossbow weapon to use hit-scanning logic instead of behaving like a projectile weapon.
- Slightly improved "low ammo" sounds.
- Improved hit responses to weapons normally considered "heavy".
- Added a graphic to the HUD crosshair to indicate when the player successfully hits an enemy.
- Removed the command "Stay still and panic" from Burning Panteros enemies. - This will make them more in line with the logic of using fire in attacks.
- Improved low-level explosive skills to be more useful and fun throughout the game.
- Removed enemy fighters' evasion damage resistance.
- Resistance to fire damage has been added to all Panteros.
- Added better logic for enemies trying to call reinforcements to better keep them in the player's line of sight - and thus be able to interrupt them. This should prevent enemies from calling from cover too often.
- Added logic to better clear vehicles abandoned by fleeing pedestrians.
- Weapon signature skills are now automatically applied when unlocked, instead of requiring the player to travel to friendly firing locations.
- Player weapon spread has been reduced and replaced with a more realistic recoil. This should better reward the ability to compensate by reducing recoil.
- Updated Impact Pistol reload and reload times to better match other same tier weapons.
HUD/UI COMBAT CHANGES:
- Added visual effects to the UI and weapon wheel to show the current upgrade level of a specific weapon.
- Added text under the weapon wheel to show the requirements for completing the equipped weapon challenge.
- Added a full screen tutorial to encourage players to use the upgrade system.
- Added the Friendly Fire Armory feature to the HQ and Suite Armory.
- Tutorial video for Remastered Proximity Mines
- Depth of field blur when precision aiming has been re-enabled.
@TCHA COMBAT CHANGES (NOTE THAT THESE AREAS OUTSIDE @TCHA ADDITIONALLY IMPROVE):
- Added evasion logic for enemy vehicles arriving in @tcha combat engagements.
- Added a scaling delay for enemy vehicles arriving at @tcha combat engagements to prevent vehicles from getting out of control.
- The combat areas at @tcha's location have been changed to bring incoming enemies closer to where the player is.
**NEW** FEATURE: EMOTE WHEEL:
- Added a customizable "wheel" that offers up to 8 emote choices on the fly.
- Added a "quick bind" feature to the left and right directional buttons ("c" and "v" on the keyboard) to quickly access any two emotes from the steering wheel.
- Added emote UI to player customization screens.
- Added a new ability to "steer" some emotes while slowly moving (some can even be mixed with others!).
- New "type" descriptions have been added to each emote type in customization. This will help players better understand the abilities and limitations of each type.
- Added 6 new emotes to try with the new emote wheel.
**NEW** FEATURE: SELFIE MODE:
There is a new "Selfie" mode in the camera app. Players can move the camera around in a small 3D space, reorient, change and modify focal lengths, switch between different facial expressions, and even stop an emote midway! Then they can hide all the HUD elements to take a photo using the respective platform's share function.
PLAYLIST FUNCTION IMPROVEMENTS:
- Removed some unnecessary "Play" buttons from the UI.
- "Custom playlist" has been moved to a more convenient place in the menu.
- Added "Shuffle" buttons to radio stations in the Playlist app as well as a custom station.
- Added a feature to the radio station selection wheel that allows you to quickly add a radio track to your own playlist.
- Added the ability to move songs within a custom playlist.
- Added a custom station to the radio wheel.
- Fixed some minor UI inconsistencies in visual formatting.
MISSION APP IMPROVEMENT:
- Added an icon to indicate the next mission in history.
- Added an icon to identify DLC missions.
- Added a "Completed" tab to summarize completed missions and challenges.
- The order of missions in the app has been reorganized so that story missions and DLC are on top.
- Added XP/money reward description and information to mission highlight information.
- Added more information to the item highlighting challenges submenu. This includes: the name of the next perk to unlock, the number of challenges required to unlock the next perk, the next perk icon, and a brief description of the next perk to unlock.
- Added a visual progress indicator for each challenge with a purple bar behind the challenge name.
- Fixed some minor inconsistencies with scrollbar functionality and menu option highlight formatting.
AUDIO:
- Balanced several instances of player and NPC voiceovers.
- Optimized ambient noise level.
- Noise level with colliding stairs.
- The default audio mix configurations have been rebalanced and the default audio slider positions have been reset to reflect the changes.
- The air blast sound effect for jumping has been nerfed.
- Increased voice line volume on Porta Potty HQ collectibles.
GENERALLY:
- Added advanced technology to automatically compress symbols on the map when zoomed out. This should increase stability in later levels of progression and make it easier to view information.
- Added option to hide player health UI.
- Added option to hide vehicle status in UI.
- Pause and Main Menu have been reorganized and unified to make it easier for players to find the options they are looking for.
- Added the ability to give a custom name to vehicles in the Garage.
- New conditions "Cloudy" and "Cloudy" have been added to the weather system.
- Fixed some pending weather bugs.
- Saints will now gather in small groups in completed districts to assist the player.
- Added a new "remote" vehicle camera via "up" on the D-pad while driving ("z" on the keyboard).
- Added a DLC menu to see what content is available and what is already there.
- Added UI indicators for all free and premium in-game DLC (weapons, missions, customization items, etc.). All custom DLC content has a simple purple background in the menu. All premium custom DLC content has a purple background and a small flower icon.
- Changed several discussion points in "First Fucking Day", "Morning Commute", "Earn Your Rent", "The Great Train Robbery", "Fall Overboard" and "Debriefing".
UPDATES FOR FRIENDS MISSIONS:
"SHOOT SHIT":
- Updated Shooting Range Objective to make it more visible to players.
- Added objects that co-op partner can shoot at.
- Changed the notoriety level at the end of the mission.
- The timer at the end of the mission has been removed and replaced with a location objective.
- Added an additional method to reach the end goal.
- Slight correction of the Eli lines to account for objective corrections.
"Quick and the most delicious":
- The starting location has been moved to prevent overlapping dialogs.
- Adjusted the complexity and difficulty of the transport vehicle objective.
"ART APPRECIATION":
- Minor damage taken by art targets while being towed has been rebalanced.
- Added more generous achievement condition targets to the feedback region.
- The first target has been moved closer to the drop site.
- The final section has become more dynamic and police vehicles have been introduced which must be avoided when trying to return to the turn spot.
- Minor change to default car radio to "Enabled" for segment.
